Ever wanted to just leave it all behind and take off around the world, letting the road be your guide with nothing but a backpack and a passport? Me too.
Unfortunately that does take a bit a lot of planning and saving, and being a member of the instant-gratification school of travel, I couldn’t swing that this year. Which is too bad because I find myself in the unique position of voluntary unemployment after working for the Obama campaign during the general election, which means now I have lots of time to travel. So what’s the solution to my travel lust and lack of funds? Presenting “The Year of Six Trips”!
Here’s the plan: freelance until I have enough money for a trip, then take off. This equals out to about six trips of 1-2 weeks each with 6 weeks in between for saving.
I was able to get my butt in gear on this plan because I had already decided on a trip to Washington, DC for the Inauguration of Barack Obama, our 44th and most kick-ass President! I had also already booked place tickets to Scandinavia in March. The Scandinavia trip was originally going to be in the fall of 2008, but the campaign side-tracked that for a while.
I will write about my trip planning throughout the year right here, so stay tuned! Two ideas down, four to go… any suggestions??
